On the National Day of the Navy Friend, celebrated on Thursday, (06), the Command of the 9th Naval District held the delivery of the "Medalha Amigo da Marinha", granted to civil and military personalities who stand out in activities to support the Brazilian Navy.

Solemnity has brought together partners, military and their families, who voluntarily promote maritime values and culture and disseminate the importance of the sea and rivers to the country.

"About 46 years ago, the Navy decided, through Admiral Maximiano, creator of the Navy Friend project, to create the National Society of Navy Friends. This initiative represents an even greater approximation of the Navy with civil entities, with society, with citizens and with public and private institutions. Over those 46 years, the Navy has evolved within this process. This evolution consists precisely in bringing more civilian people who adhere to the values and competencies of the Navy, promoting the dissemination of the maritime mentality and the actions that the institution performs. It is therefore a very happy day for all of us," said COM9DN commander, Admiral João Alberto Lampert.

Among the 43 decorated, are the president director of the Port of Manaus, Mr. Raimundo Nonato and the Director of Operations, Mr. Valmir Mendonça, who received recognition for the excellent performance ahead of one of the largest floating ports in the world.

"We are very proud and very happy for this tribute. We know that there is a rigorous selection for this award, and I, as president of the Port of Manaus, felt deeply graced for being honored by the Navy, both me and Valmir, our director of Operations.

The Navy is of paramount importance for our State and for Brazil as a whole, but mainly for the Amazon, given that our roads are rivers, and that the Amazon population is supplied in the cities of the interior precisely by rivers. Our carts are the boats," said President Raimundo Nonato.

"I am honored by this tribute, which represents the recognition and strengthening of my bond of respect with the Brazilian Navy. I value immensely the work of the 9th Naval District and the Western Amazon River Captaincy in the defense of the Amazon and in the integration of our brothers and sisters. As a citizen and employee of the Port of Manaus 25 years ago, I reaffirm my commitment to continue supporting the activities of this fundamental institution for the development of the state of amazonas ", declared the director of operations, Valmir Mendonça.

In addition to recently receiving the ship Almirante Saboia that was opened to the public for visitation, Porto is also the gateway to the big cruises that bring tourists to know the Amazon boosting the local economy, a commitment that reinforces the partnership between the institutions. The 2025-2026 season is scheduled to begin on November 24.
